Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
156 PM SST Fri Jun 13 2025

.Short term [TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY]...
Fair weather and breezy conditions continue as a dominant high-
pressure system remains in place. The associated dry air is
limiting shower development, as seen by the low-level cumulus
clouds drifting through the area. This pattern in expected to hold
through Saturday. By Saturday afternoon, conditions will begin to
shift as the high-pressure system exits the region. Winds will
gradually weaken, while moisture increases due to a weak boundary.
Expect a higher chance of showers, though the potential for flash
flooding remains low as the boundary doesn`t appear to be active.

.Long term [MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY]...
Numerous showers are expected from Monday through Tuesday,
followed by the arrival of another high-pressure system from the
south on Tuesday night. This will reintroduce trade winds, which
may strengthen, with wind speeds possibly reaching 20 to 30 mph
for the remainder of the forecast period.

.Marine...
Latest wave heights at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy are around 6 to 8
feet. Although seas are expected to subside Saturday following a
diminishing wind trend, a large south swell is forecast to pass
through coastal waters. Hence, a High Surf Advisory will likely
continue for beachgoers as high surfs and strong rip currents
will persist through Monday. Meanwhile, calm ocean conditions
associated with light winds on Saturday may drop the small craft
advisory for mariners.

Overall, this pattern looks like high surfs near the shores,
while over open waters remains calm for the Saturday through
Tuesday timeframe. By Tuesday night, expect rough ocean
conditions once again when trade winds return.
