271 FXZS60 NSTU 010104 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 204 PM SST Wed Sep 30 2026 .Discussion... A strong high pressure system extending over the territory continues to strengthen the trade wind flow, with winds reaching advisory levels (sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph) this morning. Surface pressure at the station also climbed to around 1017 mb, further indicating the strength of the high pressure system across the region. A Wind Advisory is in effect through Friday as winds are expected to peak tonight through Thursday morning before easing Saturday. The latest upper air sounding shows a well-defined trade wind inversion, which will continue to cap significant convective development. As a result, fair weather conditions will generally prevail with brief isolated to scattered showers embedded within the trade wind flow. Furthermore, the aforementioned high pressure system will continue to migrate east through the latter part of the week. Thereafter, east winds of 10 to 15 mph will prevail for the rest of the forecast period. && .Marine... Wave heights observed at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy remain around 10 feet with peak periods around 10 seconds. While these observations suggest that there is no significant swell in the area, low peak periods suggest hazardous ocean conditions are mainly wind- driven. Model guidance show seas gradually building tonight and peaking through Friday as strong winds prevail. Expect elevated wave heights through this time before gradually diminishing over the weekend as winds follow a diminishing trend. The High Surf Advisory and Small Craft Advisory remains in effect. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Wind Advisory High Surf Advisory Small Craft Advisory && $$ TM
