466 FXZS60 NSTU 250127 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 227 PM SST Mon Nov 24 2025 .Short term... Satellite imagery shows a mix of sun and clouds over American Samoa this morning and early afternoon. Winds have become northeasterly throughout the day as a strong trough remains near the Fiji region. WSO Pago Pago recorded northeasterly winds reaching up to 15 mph at times. However, winds are projected to decrease during the overnight hours and to become a light easterly breeze through Wednesday night. There is high confidence that rainfall is to be below normal through Tuesday night with isolated showers (20% chance). If showers occur, it would be in the passing form. The risk of showers increases to scattered showers (50% chance) by Wednesday. We will be monitoring the aforementioned trough currently over the Fiji region throughout the week. This strong trough is forecast to slowly move eastward and to reach American Samoa by Thursday. Rainfall may be persistent and heavy at times from late Thursday through late Friday. The chance of rainfall on Thursday is numerous showers (70% chance), but becoming widespread from Thursday night through Friday night. Pending on the exact track and strength of the trough, these showers may continue through Saturday. .Long term... From late Saturday through early next week, the trough is forecast to be to the east of American Samoa. Light winds are expected with below average to average rainfall. No significant weather is anticipated during this timeframe. Overall, we don`t expect any tropical formation to occur near the American Samoa islands throughout the next 7 days. && .Marine... Due to the moderate northeasterly breeze, seas remained elevated throughout the morning and early afternoon hours. The PacIOOS buoy to the east of Aunu`u shows seas remaining around 7 to 8 feet while 6.5 feet has been recorded to the west of Tutuila. As winds decrease late this afternoon and evening, seas are expected to slowly subside. Winds are to become a gentle easterly breeze tomorrow before becoming variable by Tuesday night and Wednesday. Since there is no significant swell anticipated to move through the region, seas are to remain ideal through at least the middle of the week. However, we are monitoring a trough that is anticipated to move over the coastal water region by Thursday and Friday. Peristent and/or heavy rainfall may occur along this trough. Even though the winds are not projected to be significant, heavy showers may bring localized gusty winds. For the weekend, winds are forecast to remain light as the trough moves to the east. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NONE && $$ LaPlante
