337 AXPQ20 PGUM 190100 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 1100 AM ChST Wed Aug 19 2026 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... TROPICAL CYCLONES... Tropical Depression 17W is currently centered near 8.6 degrees north latitude and 154.8 degrees east longitude. It is moving west-northwest at 6 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. Torrential rain and scattered thunderstorms are found within 120 miles of 7N153E. TD 17W is expected to turn toward the northwest with an increase in forward speed. TD 17W is also expected to intensify, possibly rapidly intensifying beginning sometime Thursday or Friday. The latest forecast track depicts an eventual passage through the far northern Mariana Islands this weekend. MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough enters the WFO Guam Area of Responsibility near 20N130E, passing through Invest Area 94W, which is moving out of the WFO Guam Area of Responsibility. The trough then curves east-southeast toward Saipan in the CNMI, near 15N145E, then curves east-southeast toward Tropical Depression 17W near 9N155E. It finally then curves eastward to around 5N180. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are found near the trough well north of Palau, just east of Yap, around the Marianas, near Chuuk and throughout Eastern Micronesia. Over the next few days, the monsoon trough is expected to show little change in strength or position. $$ Stanko
