626 AXPQ20 PGUM 210023 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 1023 AM ChST Fri Jun 21 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... MONSOON TROUGH... A monsoon trough enters the region at 10N130E, extending southeastward to a weak circulation located at 8N133E. General cloudiness and clusters of heavy showers are associated with this feature. The monsoon trough and weak circulation are expected to move west- northwestward over the next several days and out of the AOR this weekend. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A trade-wind trough between Chuuk and Guam is generating showers and thunderstorms between the two locations. This trough will slowly head west the next couple of days with convection largely passing just to the south of Guam. TUTT... A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) cell is centered near 18N172E, or east-southeast of Wake Island. General cloudiness with pockets of deep convection, mainly along the southeast quadrant of the cell. Models show the TUTT cell moving west-southwest over the next several days, possibly reaching the Marianas around the middle of next week. ITCZ... The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ) enters the region at 4N180E or east of Majuro, then meanders generally westward to 4N168E, then south of Kosrae near 3N159E and on to 5N154E. Clusters of heavy showers and some thunderstorms are seen along and north of the ITCZ south and east of Majuro and south and east of Kosrae. Models show the ITCZ will fragment into individual trade-wind troughs this weekend before dissipating early next week. $$ Kelly
