832 AXPQ20 PGUM 291859 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 459 AM ChST Thu May 30 2024 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TUTT... A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the AOR near 25N180 and extends southwest to 21N168E then extends west to an upper low northeast of the Marianas near 21N148E, then southwest to end near Yap at around 8N136E. Spotty showers and thunderstorms extend from Yap to south of Guam. CONVERGING TRADEWINDS... Tradewind convergence is producing spotty showers from Pohnpei through Kosrae ending near Majuro. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... A trade-wind trough approaching Yap is producing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. A weak trade-wind trough east of the Marianas is producing spotty showers. TROUGH... A trough extending from Tropical Storm Ewiniar extends southwest from 25N137E to 20N130E. This is producing rainshowers along the trough and widespread cloudiness to the southeast. ...DISCUSSION... The TUTT is expected to drift near the Mariana Islands and Yap bringing increased showers for Guam, and increased showers and isolated thunderstorms for Yap today. Convective activity associated with the tradewind convergence is expected to increase through tonight bringing increasing showers for Pohnpei, and another tradewind convergence is expected to develop near Majuro and Kwajalein on Friday. Trade wind trough near Yap is expected to push west and and bring spotty showers for Yap and Koror today. Trade-wind trough east of the Marianas is expected to bring a slight increase in showers to the region through tonight. As Tropical Storm Ewiniar continues to track northeast the trough trailing behind is expected to shift north and continue to produce showers. $$ Hong
