Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

None.

...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS...

NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH...
A near equatorial trough (NET) begins over the Philippines and
enters the area of responsibility (AOR) near 7N130E and extends
south and east, staying south of the main islands of Palau and Yap
Proper, and exits the AOR near EQ143E. A weak circulation within
the NET is southwest of Koror. Pockets of moderate convection are
occurring within the NET, especially along its northern and eastern
flank where it convergence is strongest as the NET is merging
with an approaching trade trough. The NET will linger and meander
near to southwest of Yap and Palau through midweek and will bring
enhanced potential for showers and thunderstorms.

Another NET stretches from northeast of Kosrae south and east
across the southern Marshall Islands and ends near EQ178E. Only
spotty showers within the NET, but pockets of moderate convection
occurring along the northern and eastern flank of the NET where
trade convergent flow is enhanced. The NET will will wash out over
the next day or two and give way to a redeveloping Inter-Tropical
Convergence Zone across eastern Micronesia.

TRADE-WIND TROUGHS/SURGES...
A series of trade troughs eakand surges in the trade wind are
passing through the overall background trade pattern. One
noteworthy trough well west of the Marianas is passing through
western Yap State and Palau and merging with the NET. Pockets of
moderate to deep convection are occurring across western Yap State
and the main islands of Palau. The trade trough will continue to
drift west as it merges with the NET. Another trough currently
near Chuuk and Pohnpei will drift west and help enhance showers
and thunderstorm potential for Yap and Palau around Tuesday and
Wednesday.

TUTT...
A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the AOR near
17N130E and stretches southeast across the southern Marianas
to north of Chuuk and Pohnpei, then stretching northeast through
a TUTT cell near Wake Island, and exiting the AOR near 21N180. The
TUTT is helping enhance showers near Yap and Palau. Near the TUTT
cell, pockets of thunderstorms are approaching Wake Island. The
TUTT looks to remain and meander, while the TUTT cell will pass
over Wake Island and will approach the Marianas during the latter
half of the work week. Another TUTT cell will enter the AOR and
approach Wake Island late week.
