1053 AM ChST Thu Jun 20 2024

Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

None.

...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS...

MONSOON TROUGH...
A monsoon trough enters the region 10N130E, extending southeastward
across Palau to end just south of Ngulu. Moderate convection is
associated with this feature, producing scattered showers and some
thunderstorms near the point of maximum momenta at 10N130E, and in a
convergence zone northwest of Yap. The monsoon trough, being a
result of a former tropical disturbance degrading into an open wave,
is expected to shift northwestward towards the Philippines and allow
a ridge to move in tonight.

DIRTY RIDGE...
A dirty ridge hugs the eastern peripheries of the aforementioned
monsoon trough, extending from Helen`s Reef in southern Palau, east-
northeastward to end south of Sorol in eastern Yap State. Vast
cloudiness is observed across the entirety of the ridge, with some
convection spawning at the buckling point with the incoming trades
near Sorol in eastern Yap State. As mentioned above, this ridge will
follow the monsoon trough closely and weaken through today, before
becoming indiscernible by tonight.

TRADE-WIND TROUGHS...
The troughs are difficult to distinguish from the background trade-
wind pattern across Micronesia, being generally short-lived in nature.
The most distinguishable features are producing some showers,
thunderstorms and gusty outflow boundaries across much of eastern Yap
State, northwest of Pohnpei, and south of the Marshalls.

TUTT...
A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) cell is centered near
18N173E well east of Wake Island. Little convection is associated
with this feature, producing a few thunderstorms near the center.
The TUTT will continue to shift westward, crossing Wake Island by the
weekend and head in the general direction of the northern Marianas
in the first half of next week.
