...TYPHOON SAUDEL PASSED JUST NEAR AGRIHAN AND CONTINUES MOVING
NORTHWEST ALONG THE MARIANA CHAIN...

.NEW INFORMATION...
None.

.AREAS AFFECTED...
This local statement provides information and recommended action
for people on Agrihan, Pagan and Alamagan in the Commonwealth of the
Northern Marianas.

.WATCHES/WARNINGS...
A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan
in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

.STORM INFORMATION...
As of 700 PM ChST, 0900 UTC, the center of Typhoon Saudel (17W) was
located near 19N145E just northwest of Agrihan. The System continues
to move northwest, now slowing its forward speed to 10 mph. The
maximum sustained winds have increased, now to 110 mph near the
center. Saudel will continue on this trajectory to then slowly shift
to the west-northwest, accelerating once again through Sunday and
further intensify as it continues to move away from the Marianas.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
The most destructive winds and intense rainfall are concentrated near
the center of Saudel, likely producing these conditions in northern
Agrihan waters.

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Residents of Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan should remain in a protective
shelter or inside a cave. Winds are expected to improve significantly
late tonight or Sunday morning as typhoon Saudel continues to move
away from the Marianas to the northwest.

.NEXT UPDATE...
The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather
Service in Tiyan by 3 AM ChST, or sooner if conditions warrant.

...A TYPHOON WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT...

.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Remain in suitable shelter until the all clear has been given and
the winds have subsided.

.WIND INFORMATION...
West to southwest with winds of 80 to 100 mph and gusts to 130 mph
expected the next few hours, to then begin improving thereafter,
falling below damaging levels possibly early Sunday morning.

.COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION...
Some inundation with significant coastal erosion is expected to
continue as swells generated by Saudel continue to pummel all reefs.
Life- threatening surf is not likely to improve along south and east
exposures until Sunday.

.OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Periods of torrential rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected
the rest of tonight, to then improve considerably beginning Sunday as
typhoon Saudel continues to move away.
