...TROPICAL DEPRESSION 32W TO BRING HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND STRONG WINDS
ACROSS YAP STATE...

Tropical Depression 32W remains elongated across eastern Yap State,
embedded along the eastern extent of the monsoon trough and producing
an unsettled weather pattern across much of the region. TD 32W has
been drifting southward early this morning with little consolidation
or movement overnight with a maximum wind speed of 35 mph, but is
forecasted to make a turn to the north-northwest today, likely
strengthening to a tropical storm by this evening. 32W is expected to
make a near pass to the northeast of Ulithi and Fais in Yap State as
it strengthens through tonight, and a Tropical Storm Warning has
been issued for those locations. A Tropical Storm Warning means that
tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are
expected within 24 hours.

Heavy convection will continue to build over the eastern islands of
Yap State as TD 32W strengthens, dragging the monsoon trough north
and west as it makes a turn to the north-northwest. This will pull
the heavy showers further west across Yap State and towards Yap
Proper and surrounding islands. If 32W continues to slowly dig south
before it turns north-northwest, or if its track becomes more
westerly, a Tropical Storm Watch may be needed for Yap Proper.
Additionally, a southward variation in the track and a slower forward
motion could bring typhoon conditions to Ulithi and Fais, and a
Typhoon Watch may be needed for these locations as well. Strong to
tropical storm force winds and heavy showers and thunderstorms will
make inter-island travel hazardous and potentially dangerous at times
through the week. Surf will be elevated due to the background
westerly swell from the monsoon pattern and swell being generated
from TD 32W. Elevated surf, along with elevated high tides around
the full moon on Wednesday, may lead to minor splashup/runup on
beaches, mainly along south and west facing shores.

Residents and mariners should monitor the latest forecasts for the
region at weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts and any information shared
by WSO Yap for their local regions.

issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center under WMO header WTPN32

...ELEVATED SEAS AND SURF TO CONTINUE AS TROPICAL DEPRESSION 32W
MOVES AWAY...

Conditions are expected to improve over western Chuuk State as TD
32W makes a turn to the north-northwest, moving away over the next
few days. Heavy showers and gusty winds will diminish over the
westernmost islands of Chuuk State, but seas and surf may remain
choppy and elevated, especially along south and west facing reefs due
to the westerly swell generated by the monsoon pattern and as TD 32W
strengthens. High tides will be elevated for the next few days, and
along with elevated surf, may lead to minor splashup/runup on
beaches, mainly south and west facing shores.

Residents and mariners should monitor the latest forecasts for the
region at weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts and any information shared
by WSO Chuuk for their local regions.
