CHANGES WITH THIS ADVISORY -------------------------- None. WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Tinian, Saipan, Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan in the CNMI. A Typhoon Watch remains in effect for Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan in the CNMI. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within 24 hours. A Typhoon Watch means that typhoon conditions, including winds of 74 mph or more, are possible within 48 hours. SUMMARY OF 700 AM CHST...2100 UTC...INFORMATION ----------------------------------------------- Location...17.0N 144.9E About 65 miles northwest of Anatahan About 75 miles southwest of Alamagan About 95 miles southwest of Pagan About 130 miles south-southwest of Agrihan About 140 miles north-northwest of Saipan About 145 miles north-northwest of Tinian About 195 miles north of Rota About 245 miles north of Guam Maximum sustained winds...60 mph Present movement...west-northwest...285 degrees at 9 mph DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 700 AM CHST...2100 UTC...the center of Tropical Storm Choi-wan was located near Latitude 17.0 degrees North and Longitude 144.9 degrees East. Choi-wan is moving west-northwest at 9 mph. It is expected to make a turn toward the north with a slight decrease in forward speed through Saturday as it moves nearly parallel to the Mariana chain. Maximum sustained winds remain at 60 mph. Choi-wan is forecast to intensify through tonight, potentially becoming a typhoon this afternoon. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 125 miles. NEXT ADVISORY ------------- An intermediate advisory will be issued by the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam at 1100 AM ChST later this morning, followed by the next scheduled advisory at 200 PM ChST this afternoon. $$ Montvila
