.DISCUSSION...Chances for rain showers and thunderstorms will
quickly decrease after 4 PM this afternoon, falling from a 60% chance
of rain showers and a 40% chance of thunderstorms at 4 PM to a 20-25%
chance of rain showers and a 15% chance of thunderstorms by 6-7 PM.
Conditions will likely be dry during and after the parade. However, those
setting up before the parade should have rain jackets and rain boots
handy and should be prepared to temporarily head indoors if thunder
is heard and/or a flash of lightning is observed. The heaviest showers
and thunderstorms have missed downtown Portland to the north and south
thus far today, and this trend seems to be continuing as of 4 PM. That
said, a heavier shower or thunderstorm is still possible as late as
6-7 PM, which would produce brief heavy downpours, gusty outflow winds
up to 30-35 mph, and small hail up to the size of peas. A few flashes
of cloud-to-ground lightning will also pose a safety hazard with any
thunderstorm that does develop.
