...The Great ShakeOut - Thursday October 16...

On Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 1016 AM PDT, the National Weather
Service Forecast Offices across Oregon and Washington will
participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake drill. This is part of
a global earthquake preparedness effort where millions of people
worldwide will practice how to drop, cover, and hold on at 1016 AM
PDT on October 16th.

You can join by registering for the 2025 Great ShakeOut at
www.shakeout.org. Participation is a great way for your family or
organization to be better prepared to survive and recover quickly
from big earthquakes and their impacts.

The National Weather Service Offices across Oregon and Washington
will help kick off the Great ShakeOut drill by disseminating a
Required Monthly Test message via the NOAA Weather Radio to activate
the Emergency Alert System on October 16th at 10:16 AM PDT.
Broadcasters will carry the EAS message on television and radio to
help reach more of the state`s residents, along with those who have
all-hazard weather radio receivers. This will not be a test of the
Wireless Emergency Alerts sent to cell phones.

For the coastal areas of Washington, the Great ShakeOut will include
a tsunami drill and a test of the All Hazards Alert Broadcast
Tsunami Sirens.The purpose of the test is to get the public
familiar with what the sirens will sound like during a tsunami
event. All of Washingtons 120+ tsunami sirens along the inner and
outer coast will be tested at 10:16 AM AM using the real wailing
sound of a tsunami warning, not the Westminster Chimes that are
typically used during the monthly tests. Please do not call 911.
