.DISCUSSION...

Quiet weather today, with increasing cloudiness this evening as an
upper level weather system approaches. Rain showers are possible
after midnight, briefly mixing with snow above 8500 feet early Sunday
morning. Steadier and heavier rain then develops Sunday morning,
continuing through the day. A chance for thunderstorms also develops
Sunday afternoon and evening, which may produce brief periods of
very heavy rainfall. Precipitation continues Sunday night, then
slowly ends during the day on Monday. Snow levels during the day
Sunday may rise toward 12000 feet by afternoon, then slowly fall
back toward 9000 feet by early Monday morning.

Total precipitation amounts of over 3 inches are possible by Monday
afternoon over the higher terrain along the Continental Divide, though
a portion of this will fall as snow. The western edge of the San Luis
Valley will see lesser amounts, with a half inch to an inch possible
at Del Norte and Antonito, and slightly heavier amounts of 1 to 2
inches near the mountains, including South Fork. Peak melting and
run-off will likely occur late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening,
with most streams and rivers in the mountains then cresting
overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
