Synopsis for the E Pacific within 250 nm of Mexico

.SYNOPSIS...Newly named Tropical Storm Erick is near 11.9N 93.6W,
or about 390 nm southeast of Punta Maldonado, Mexico at 2 AM
PDT, and is moving west-northwest at 10 kt. Maximum sustained
winds are 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt, and the minimum central
pressure is 1005 mb. Erick will move to near 12.5N 94.4W this
afternoon, to near 13.2N 95.3W late tonight with maximum
sustained winds 55 kt gusts 65 kt, strengthen to a hurricane
near 14.0N 96.4W Wed afternoon with maximum sustained winds 65 kt
gusts 80 kt, and continue to strenghten as it moves to near
15.3N 97.6W late Wed night and well inland southern Mexico Thu
afternoon, eventually weakening to a tropical depression storm
late Fri night. Elsewhere, high pressure well northwest of the
area will support pulsing moderate to fresh northwest to north
winds across the Baja California Norte offshore waters through
the rest of the week. Rough northwest to north swell will build
over the Baja waters through the rest of the week. The swell will
be reinforced by a new set of northwest to north starting Fri.
Moderate to fresh southerly winds will continue across the Gulf
of California today. Winds will be mainly moderate or weaker
elsewhere during the period.
