.DISCUSSION...

Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at NWS Reno! Dry weather and
mild temperatures are on the menu this Thanksgiving with daytime
highs in the 50s and 60s regionwide. Winds become a bit breezy
this afternoon (with gusts below 20 mph) in response to weak low
pressure passing to our north. Gusts along Sierra ridges north of
Mono County also increase this evening, which may result in some
bumpy flights this evening into Friday morning. More of the same
is in store for Friday, although temperatures begin a cooling
trend.

High-amplitude ridging in the eastern Pacific will allow a series
of slider-type lows and attendant cold fronts to drop into the
region from the north Sunday through into the middle of next week.
The first cold front arrives on Sunday, bringing a drop in
temperatures -- highs mainly mid 40s to near 50 -- and breezy winds.
Light rain and snow showers may accompany the frontal passage,
but chances only increase to 10-20% from the Surprise Valley/N
Washoe County into N Pershing County. The Monday morning commute
will be met with quite chilly, subfreezing temperatures so be sure
to bundle up and crank the heater!

A second cold front brings another sharp cooldown and renewed
breeziness Tuesday and Wednesday, along with increasing rain and
snow chances. Given the weather pattern, this cold front will again
lean on the drier side so any rain and snow will more than likely be
light.

.AVIATION...

Widespread VFR conditions and light breezes prevail today under
persistent high pressure. SW/W FL100 winds increase to 30-40 kts
after 21Z today, which could pose LLWS/mountain wave turbulence
issues east of the Sierra through 18Z Friday.
