.DISCUSSION...

Peak wind gusts on Saturday were generally 40-50 mph across
western NV and eastern CA, with a few foothill sites west of Reno
surpassing 50 mph, and ridge top gusts near 65 mph. The trough
passage associated with the low pressure over Oregon is currently
occurring over the northern Sierra/far northwest NV, keeping gusty
winds around 40 mph over a few sites. However, as this trough
departs, these winds will decrease into early morning while
humidity values have already increased, so all wind advisories and
red flag warnings have been cancelled. Ridge top winds may be a
bit slower to decrease, with lingering gusts near 55 mph at times
through mid-morning.

For the remainder of today, a secondary shortwave trough
associated with the low exiting Oregon will bring another round
of breezy west to northwest winds, but lower speeds compared to
Saturday with peak gusts near 30 mph. Although today`s highs
will be 5-10 degrees cooler than yesterday, and up to 15 degrees
cooler near the Oregon border, a drier air mass will also be
present. This will result in brief periods of elevated fire
weather conditions this afternoon in parts of western NV from I-80
southward, and into southern/eastern Mono County.

For tonight as northwest to north winds diminish, clear skies and
dry conditions will allow for a cool night more typical for the
fall season, with lows mainly in the 40s for lower elevations and
30s near the Sierra. Colder Sierra valleys could even dip into the
20s by daybreak Monday. With light north to northeast winds
prevailing through Monday, inversions will limit heating in lower
elevations with highs generally in the 70s for most valley and
Sierra sites.

For the remainder of the week, lower elevations will see afternoon
highs warm up into the 80s, while most Sierra locations remain in
the 70s. A weak low pressure around midweek may bring a slight
increase in afternoon breezes, and even low-end (up to 10%)
shower chances to far northeast CA-northwest NV, otherwise dry
weather and lighter winds will prevail into next weekend. MJD

.AVIATION...

Winds today at the main terminals will decrease compared to
Saturday, although afternoon gusts around 25 kt are expected with
a secondary trough/cold front passage. Winds will become more west
to northwest at most terminals before decreasing after 02-04Z this
evening. FL100 wind gusts up to 45 kt will continue to produce
areas of turbulence and LLWS this morning until around 18Z.

Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail for the upcoming week, with
lighter winds (gusts below 20 kt) at the main terminals for Monday
and Tuesday. A bit more wind may arrive Wednesday with a weak low
pressure approaching northern CA, although confidence is lower due
to a wider range of potential tracks for this weather system. MJD
