811 FXUS65 KREV 080729 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 1229 AM PDT Tue Sep 8 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Warmer and drier trend through Thursday with typical afternoon breezes. * Low shower and thunderstorm chances along the Eastern Sierra on Wednesday, higher chances for Thursday. * Breezy conditions arrive Thursday with cooler temperatures trending for the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... The action in the forecast will wait until mid-to-late week to get started. For now we will enjoy upward trending temperatures and typical afternoon breezes through Wednesday. While guidance was suggesting showers arrive by Wednesday, it now appears the chances are less than 5%. The better opportunity arrives for Thursday, when showers could surge as far north as Reno, with the best chances south of US-50 and across Mono, Mineral and southern Lyon counties. A trough will swing into view for late week, increasing winds into the weekend. The trough will also work to drop temperatures, although whether the highs will rest in the low 80s or upper 70s across western Nevada, is yet to be determined. What is clear so far is the increasing winds, bringing southwest gusts of 25-30 mph back into the region. HRICH && .AVIATION... * Shallow fog is possible at KTRK between 10-15z this morning. VFR conditions prevail today with afternoon wind gusts 10-15 kts between 21-22z today through around 03-04z Wednesday. Gusts today near KMMH may reach 15-20 kts.
