.DISCUSSION...

We have a bit of a persistent troughing off the Pacific Coast,
sandwiched between a strong high pressure over the northern Pacific
and a deepening and migrating high pressure over the central and
western CONUS. The main core of the polar jet is well to the north
this time of year, so winds that make their way to the surface here
will be driven largely by gradient, with minor influence from
shortwave glances of faster winds aloft. This will keep afternoon
winds in an enhanced zephyr pattern so long as this pattern persists
through the weekend. Look for afternoon gusts to approach 20-25 mph
daily.

There is a bit of influence from the southeast as a nudge of
monsoonal moisture meets the edge of the Pacific trough somewhere
near Mono, Lyon, and Mineral counties to kick off daily chances
of 10-20% for showers and storms each afternoon. This pattern
looks to linger through Saturday.

Keep in mind, any shower or storm that forms may contain lightning,
gusty outflow winds, small hail and rain. Be weather aware if your
plans take you outdoors into Mono, Mineral, and Lyon counties
this week. Another concern will be lightning starts from receptive
fuels, with gusty winds and low relative humidity values.
Elevated to briefly critical fire weather will be a concern each
afternoon. Current fires burning in NE California will continue to
produce hazy skies across NE California and NW Nevada daily.

.AVIATION...

* Enhanced afternoon westerly breezes with gusts up to 25 kts
through 06z daily this week. Showers and thunderstorms are
possible near KMMH and KHTH between 21z-04z daily this week,
with 10-20% chances. VFR conditions for all other terminals.
Expect density altitude issues common for summer - heat in the
   afternoon may impact aircraft performance.
