.KEY MESSAGES...

* Cooler temperatures today with light easterly winds by the
  afternoon.

* A 20-60% chance for light rain in western Nevada and snow
  showers above 9,000 feet across the eastern Sierra through the
  afternoon.

* Warming and drying trend Tuesday through the remainder of the
  week.

.DISCUSSION...

As of 2AM, light precipitation is ongoing in eastern Lassen, as
well as portions of western NV. Precipitation totals so far have
been very light, generally between a trace to at most 0.10". With
all the cloud cover, temperatures are still in the mid 50s to
mid-60s in western NV, which is on the warm side for late
September.

For today, the upper low pressure giving us this wet, cool
weather will track into southern NV/CA. Precipitation will wrap
around this low pressure system, giving us between a 20-60%
chance of showers generally south of I-80 in western NV.
Meanwhile, easterly winds will give us upslope flow in southern
Alpine and Mono counties in the eastern Sierra. Those areas have a
40-60% chance of precipitation, with light snow accumulations
above 9,000 feet in southern Mono County. Latest guidance shows
the highest precipitation totals confined to the higher elevations
of Mono County, with a 50% chance for at least 0.25" in the White
Mountains. Otherwise, liquid totals today are on the light side,
with amounts around 0.10" with some areas locally up to 0.25".

This low pressure system continues to push east into AZ and NM on
Tuesday. Winds will become north to northeast, with wind gusts
along the Sierra ridges upwards of 45-50 mph. Any smoke from the
Dome Fire in Yosemite will move into the San Joaquin Valley. By
Wednesday into next weekend, a ridge will strengthen across the
western U.S. This will allow for temperatures to once again
increase back into the mid to upper-80s in western NV and even mid
to upper-70s for eastern Sierra communities. Winds are light and
conditions are dry during this timeframe. -McKellar

.AVIATION...

There is a 10-30% chance of -RA for western NV terminals through
18Z. There is also a 40-50% chance for -RA at KMMH and KHTH
through 00Z.

VFR conditions for all western NV and eastern Sierra terminals.
There may be areas of MVFR to IFR in showers and mountain
obscurations in western NV, Alpine, and Mono counties.

Winds are light and variable through 18Z, then become north to
northeast with gusts between 15-20 kts after 00Z for most area
terminals. The main exception is KMMH, which will have west winds
with gusts of 20-25 kts. -McKellar
