.DISCUSSION...

Below average high temperatures today will increase to above
normal by Wednesday, bringing overnight lows up as well. Wednesday
looks to be the warmest day of the week with valley highs in the
upper 70s and Sierra highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Overnight
lows will flirt with subfreezing temperatures along the Sierra
again tonight before increasing into the mid 30s by midweek. Dry
conditions will accompany these warming temperatures through at
least Thursday.

A trough is expected to drop down midweek, bringing impacts to the
area by Friday. Impacts include widespread shower chances, gusty
afternoon winds, and much cooler temperatures. However, while
models are starting to resolve the uncertainty a bit with the
latest run, there`s still ambiguity on the timing of this system.
Regardless, though, showers can be expected to start in NE CA
before pushing into the Sierra south of the Tahoe Basin and into W
NV. Friday looks to be the windiest day of the week with gusts
upwards of 60 mph along the ridges.

There`s even some potential for some snow flurries along the Tahoe
Basin on Friday! Snow levels drop to 7-8 kft Friday afternoon and
into the evening hours. Temperatures will drop, as well, with
"chilly" afternoons settling back in (highs in the low 60s and low
50s for valleys and mountains, respectively). This system might
just be the thing that firmly solidifies "fall" across much of the
area.
