Afternoon breezes will amplify today, bringing widespread gusts of 25-30 mph this afternoon. Localized areas across northern Washoe County could see gusts to 35 mph. This is resulting from a weak shortwave that is brushing through the northwestern Nevada region, especially northern Washoe County. Due to the gusty breezes and afternoon relative humidity only ranging 10-15% across northwestern Nevada, elevated fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon. Take care to prevent a spark today. Some convection-allowing models are depicting isolated showers may appear over Mono or Mineral County late this afternoon. Chances are less than 5%, but there could be a stray shower that blooms over the Sierra. Keep that in mind if you are out recreating, as gusty winds may accompany any shower that forms. Tomorrow, another pleasant summer day is in the works. While temperatures remain near seasonal averages, typical afternoon breezes return. Friday into the weekend, we will see a slow, steady increase in temperatures that will bring the western Nevada valleys back into the mid to upper 90s. In fact this warm air will remain through early July. Once we move the calendar into July, we will see another opportunity for showers and storms to return to the region. Until then, things will be dry, warm and breezy each afternoon.
