045 FXUS65 KREV 292028 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 128 PM PDT Tue Sep 29 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Breezy north winds expected this afternoon in Mono and Mineral counties with gusty NE winds along the Sierra crest overnight. * Dry weather persists into the weekend with temperatures warming above seasonal averages from midweek onward. * Low rain chances return on Sunday, otherwise an extended period of dry weather is favored through the second week of October. && .DISCUSSION... Dry and mild weather prevails today as high pressure in the eastern Pacific begins to extend into the region. A maturing surface low in Arizona will encourage breezy N/NE winds across S Mono and Mineral counties this afternoon, with gusts reaching 25-30 mph at times. Gusty E/NE winds also return to the Sierra crest overnight, but should be weaker than this morning`s winds. Elsewhere, light north to northeast breezes are expected today. A dry weather pattern remains in place heading into the weekend as high pressure settles overhead. A sharp warming trend will culminate in several days of daytime highs in the upper 70s and 80s from Wednesday onward. Friday and Saturday are favored to be the warmest days of the week when Sierra and NE CA/W NV valley communities flirt with 80F and 90F highs, respectively. Ensembles hint at increasing rain chances in the eastern Sierra Sunday into early next week in response to a weak low pressure passage, but chances are rather low. Otherwise, a persistent dry pattern is favored (40-50% chance of below normal precipitation) through at least the second week of October, if not longer. -Salas && .AVIATION... Widespread VFR conditions prevail today with light N/NE breezes in the afternoon. However, N/NW winds may gusts up to 25 mph at KMMH during the afternoon.
