Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and Central Wyoming
National Weather Service Riverton WY
154 PM MDT Sat Jun 22 2024

.DISCUSSION...

...Yellowstone NP and Teton dispatch areas (includes fire weather
zones 140...414...415...and 416)...

A very warm, dry, and breezy pattern is setting up for this
afternoon through Tuesday. Temperatures will climb to 10-12
degrees above normal Sunday and Monday as breezy and gusty west-
southwest winds bring much drier conditions. Each afternoon has an
isolated chance of thunderstorms across the northern parts of YNP,
but the rest of the NW and western mountains should stay dry. This
pattern is elevating fire weather conditions though at least
Tuesday.

...Cody dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 275...276...
282...283...285...286...287...288...and 289)...

Very warm and dry conditions are replacing the cooler and wet
conditions of the past couple of days. The biggest impacts with
wind are in the eastern foothills of the Wind Rivers and Absarokas
this afternoon. Winds will increase on Sunday as temperatures
reach 10-15 degrees above normal for mid to late June. Most areas
will see 12-17 mph with 20-30 mph gusts. The northern Absarokas
and northern Bighorns will have a very small chance of showers and
thunderstorms early this evening and again Sunday and Monday. In
addition, there is about a 10 percent chance of showers and
thunderstorms from the Dubois area toward Grass Creek Sunday
afternoon. This pattern will bring elevated fire weather
conditions from Sunday through at least Tuesday.

...Casper dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 277...278...
279...280...281...285...289...and 300)...

Very warm, dry, and breezy/gusty conditions are replacing the cool
west conditions of Friday. Weak high pressure will quickly bring
temperatures to well above normal, as the lower elevations of
zones 280/281 reach the mid to upper 90s on Sunday. Winds will
increase Sunday from the west-southwest as humidities drop to the
upper to mid teens, creating elevated fire weather conditions.
These conditions will continue through at least Tuesday. The
exception is the southern portions of zone 279 where isolated
showers and thunderstorms as possible each afternoon. Zone 279
should see scattered thunderstorms Monday afternoon.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds...
...Haines Index is high level Haines both day and night...
