Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and Central Wyoming
National Weather Service Riverton WY
143 PM MDT Mon Jun 16 2025

.DISCUSSION...

...Yellowstone NP and Teton dispatch areas (includes fire weather
zones 140...414...415...and 416)...

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible (low chance) this
afternoon and early evening from zone 414 into zone 416, as well
as across the northern portion of zone 140. Gusty west-southwest
winds at the higher elevations will decrease around sunset. Clouds
will increase overnight, with isolated showers possible, again
over zone 140 and zone 415. Some areas may see north-northeast
wind. Tuesday will be cooler with isolated showers and
thunderstorms during the early afternoon over the eastern parts of
the dispatch area. Gusty northwest wind will impact the higher
elevations during the afternoon and early evening.

...Cody dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 275...276...
282...283...285...286...287...288...and 289)...

Cooler and moist air with NNE wind is in the lower elevations,
while warmer and dry air is on the western edges of the dispatch
area today. This will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms to
the eastern foothills of zones 286 and 288. The storms will then
move eastward. Stronger storms are possible in the northeast and
eastern parts of the dispatch area. North winds will bring back
cooler moister air overnight, with isolated showers possible
through the night. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are again
possible Tuesday afternoon with much cooler max temps and higher
humidities.

...Casper dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 277...278...
279...280...281...285...289...and 300)...

Gusty west wind and low humidities of 10-15% have brought elevated
fire weather conditions to much of southwest WY. Conditions should
improve around sunset. The northern half of zone 278 could see
some showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Zones in central
and north-central WY have a good chance of thunderstorms late this
afternoon into the evening hours, especially zones 280, 281, and
285. Some storms may become severe and produce wind over 60 mph
along with large hail. Zones 280 and 281 have a good chance also
of overnight isolated showers and storms. NNE winds will be gusty
overnight in places as well due to the storm systems. Split
conditions again on Tuesday, with dry gusty northwest wind over SW
WY, and moist stormy NE winds over central and north-central WY.
Overall temperatures will be cooler by 5-8 degrees Tuesday.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds...
