.DISCUSSION...
Heat and humidity continue today with heat index values reaching
triple digits for the lowlands, and even into the lower elevations
of the mountains. Therefore, Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat
Advisories remain in effect for these areas.
With warm, muggy nights providing little relief during this
prolonged heat wave, impacts from the heat are undoubtedly
accumulating, and the heat warnings and advisories have extended
through Thursday for much of the lowlands, even as the heat may ease
off a bit.
Today brings the first noteworthy chance for afternoon and evening
thunderstorms in several days, at least across the north and in the
mountains, where strong downbursts are possible. Once here, the
chance for mainly afternoon and early evening showers and
thunderstorms continues through the weekend, and even into early
next week.
