.KEY MESSAGES...

- Seasonably cool temperatures today. Scattered showers across
  the area through tonight. Localized heavy rainfall and a few
  instances of flash flooding will be possible across the area.

- A Heat Advisory has been issued across the area from 1 PM
  Saturday through 7 PM Tuesday with heat index values from 100
  to 110 degrees possible.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

Warm front is draped to our south with a weak frontal boundary
to our north. Rain has persisted over the area for most of the
day and will continue to linger through the night. There may be
pockets of localized flash flooding primarily east of Highway
65 if showers can train over the same areas for long periods of
time. Widespread flash flooding is not a concern at this time
and rainfall amounts continue to trend downward for the weekend.
So far, there has been very little lightning with this activity
and the best chance for it to occur would be this afternoon.

Highs have been very pleasant today with temperatures sitting in
the upper 70s with cloudy skies. Lows tonight will be in the mid
60s and 70s with clouds sticking around through the night. Winds
will remain south-southeasterly at around 10 mph or less.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Mid-level ridging will return to the area for the next several
days bringing back the heat. A Heat Advisory has replaced the
Extreme Heat Watch and has been issued for the entire area
starting 1 PM Saturday and ending 7 PM Tuesday for heat index
values up to 110 degrees possible. The Heat Advisory may be
extended in time, if needed. There may also be a few counties
over SE KS/SW MO that will need an Extreme Heat Warning as the
ridge parks over us and cranks up the heat a bit higher in those
counties. Either way, it`ll be hot. Expect highs in the 90s and
lower 100s and for temperatures to gradually get warmer through
the weekend and into the start of next week. Heat index values
will range from 100 to 110 degrees with little overnight relief
with lows in the mid 70s.

The ridge starts to break down Wednesday into Thursday with
low-end (15%) POPs moving in by mid-week with shortwaves
attempting to move in to the area.
