04/17/2026 Benton MO NWS Storm Survey

A combination of NWS ground surveys and
reanalysis of satellite data concluded that
an EF-1 tornado with estimated maximum winds
of 100 mph occurred east of Whitakerville,
which was south of other previously
identified tornadoes in the Warsaw area.
Satellite data revealed that the tornado
began within a forested area between Highway
            83 and Highway 65, creating a 150-yard wide
scar of uprooted trees. Eyewitness accounts
then reported rotation crossing Highway 65
where tree damage became more light and
intermittent east of Highway MM. The tornado
then damaged roofing of an add-on building
of the Warsaw High School where video showed
lofting and rotation of the roofing
material. After producing damage over 1.6
miles in approximately 2 minutes, the
tornado then dissipated around Kindle road
where it uprooted trees within a narrow
            corridor.
