...Major Computer Upgrade at NWS Springfield from June 16-18th...

The National Weather Service in Springfield, Missouri will be conducting
a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather
Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) system from Monday June 16th
through Wednesday, June 18th. The NWS uses the AWIPS computer
system to display and integrate weather and water information, and
to send life-saving information, such as weather and water
warnings, to the public.

During the time of this update, forecast and warning operations
will be conducted by our service back-up offices in St. Louis,
MO, Paducah, KY, and Lincoln, IL to minimize any potential
interruption to services.

No impacts to our core services of forecast products and weather
watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period.
The KSGF radar will remain operational and products will continue
to be distributed as normal.

The NWS Springfield office will remain open and staffed at all
hours throughout this update period to help support our backup
offices, answer public and partner phone calls, and additional
functions that can be completed without AWIPS.

However, impacts will occur to the NOAA Weather Radio transmitters
that are maintained by the NWS Springfield office and serve
southwest MO, central MO, extreme southeast Kansas, extreme
northeast OK, and extreme northern Arkansas. Beginning around 8 AM
on Monday June 16th, all of the NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts
provided by the NWS Springfield office will go offline for the
duration of this update. A listing of NOAA Weather Radio
transmitters that are broadcast from the NWS Springfield office
can be found online at http://weather.gov/nwr/wfo_list?WFO=SGF.
NOAA Weather broadcasts are expected to return to service sometime
on Wednesday, June 18th.

During periods of planned or unplanned outages, it is important
to have multiple ways to receive warning information. These
alternative sources include: local television/radio, weather apps
on your mobile device, such as the FEMA or Red Cross App,and at
the NWS website at weather.gov/sgf.
