 - The escalating heat wave shows no signs of relenting anytime
   soon as widespread triple-digit high temperatures are likely
   this weekend.

 - Rain chances will remain virtually non-existent under this very
   stagnant pattern as convection is deflected around the ridge.

 - Flash drought conditions will begin to quickly manifest in this
   increasingly hot and dry blocking high regime.

There are only so many ways to describe summer heat waves, and the
current one still has plenty of runway with at least another week
of upper 90s and lower triple-digit high temperatures ahead of us.
In fact, the heat will only accelerate into this weekend as the
center of the ridge axis becomes firmly anchored directly across
the Ark-La-Tex. So the likelihood of more widespread triple digits
will only continue to increase under this blocking high regime
that is in no hurry to vacate. Of course, it goes without saying
this time of year that heat safety is always paramount, especially
with high school sports activities ramping back up once again.

Unfortunately, heat stress isn`t the only concern with the rapid
pace of drying out as soil moisture is further depleted and fire
danger becomes increasingly elevated. Expect the combination of
extreme heat and a lack of rainfall to result in flash drought
conditions developing over the coming week and possibly beyond.
Short of any pattern change, there isn`t much to get excited about
in terms of rain chances except for possibly early next week with
a weak boundary lingering to our north around the eastern edge of
the ridge axis, which will retrograde slightly westward by Monday
into Tuesday. Otherwise, anticipate the status quo with further
extensions of heat headlines almost certain for next week.

(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 116 PM CDT Thu Aug 13 2026

For the 13/18Z TAFs, VFR conditions will prevail throughout this
afternoon and through the evening and much of the night. This
aftenroon`s Cu field will continue through sundown, dissipating
into the evening hours. A few high clouds will punctuate an
otherwise clear and quiet night before some lower CIGs develop in
the predawn hours, dropping to MVFR levels and gradually climbing
by mid-morning. Some patchy mist development is possible in the
vicinity of KLFK. Tomorrow`s Cu field will begin to develop by the
tail end of this forecast period. South southwest winds will
continue at maximum sustained speeds of 5 to 10 kts with gusts of
up to 20 kts possible particularly this afternoon.
