WEATHERWISE DURING JULY 2026, SHREVEPORT RECORDED SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AND ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL. HOWEVER, THE 5.27 INCHES OF
RAIN RECORDED DURING JULY DID NOT RANK IN THE TOP 30 WETTEST JULYS ON
RECORD, AND WAS THE WETTEST SINCE 5.52 INCHES WAS OBSERVED IN JULY 2024.
THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE MONTHLY RAIN FELL DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE
MONTH, CARRYING OVER A TREND THAT PERSISTED THROUGHOUT MUCH OF JUNE. NEARLY
HALF OF THE JULY TOTAL RAINFALL FELL ON THE 13TH, WHERE 2.59 INCHES WAS
TALLIED AT THE SHREVEPORT REGIONAL AIRPORT. THE EIGHT RAIN DAYS OBSERVED
DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH CONTRIBUTED TO A PERIOD OF NEAR TO BELOW
NORMAL DAILY TEMPERATURES DURING THE PERIOD, BEFORE THE RETURN TO ABOVE
NORMAL TEMPERATURES DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE MONTH RESULTED IN
MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURES REBOUNDING BACK TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL.
A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MOVED THROUGH THE SHREVEPORT/BOSSIER CITY
METROPOLITAN AREA DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON JULY 6TH,
PRODUCING A MEASURED 63 MPH WIND GUST AT THE SHREVEPORT REGIONAL AIRPORT.
MULTIPLE TREES WERE ALSO BLOWN DOWN ACROSS THE METRO AREA AS WELL, WITH A
SIMILAR 65 MPH WIND GUST MEASURED FROM A RESIDENTIALLY OWNED WEATHER
STATION IN THE PRINCETON COMMUNITY EAST OF BOSSIER CITY. BANDS OF
THUNDERSTORMS CONTAINING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL PRODUCED FLASH FLOODING ACROSS
PORTIONS OF NORTH AND EAST SHREVEPORT INTO MUCH OF BOSSIER CITY DURING THE
MID AND LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON JULY 13TH, WHERE NUMEROUS ROADS WERE
FLOODED AND MULTIPLE HIGH WATER RESCUES WERE NEEDED FROM STALLED VEHICLES.
THESE STORMS ALSO PRODUCED A DAMAGING MICROBURST IN CENTRAL SHREVEPORT
WHERE SEVERAL TREES WERE BLOWN DOWN AND A SHED WAS DESTROYED IN THE CEDAR
GROVE NEIGHBORHOOD. ASIDE FROM THE 0.54 INCHES RECORDED AT THE SHREVEPORT
REGIONAL AIRPORT FROM AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM THAT DEVELOPED OVER SOUTH
AND WEST SHREVEPORT, NO MEASURABLE RAIN FELL THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE
MONTH, CONTRIBUTING TO DRYING TOPSOIL CONDITIONS AND HOTTER TEMPERATURES
TO END THE MONTH AS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILT IN OVER
THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND FOUR STATE REGION.
MODERATE (D1) AND ABNORMALLY DRY (D0) DROUGHT CONDITIONS ACROSS CADDO AND
BOSSIER PARISHES TO START THE MONTH IMPROVED A CATEGORY BY MID-MONTH, WITH
ONLY ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS PERSISTING ACROSS SOUTHERN CADDO PARISH
(TO RESPECT THE LONGER TERM DRYNESS BETWEEN THE 6-12 MONTH TIMESCALES).
THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS MADE AFTER WIDESPREAD 3-6+ INCHES FELL ON THE 12TH-13TH,
AND 6.19 INCHES ALONE WAS MEASURED AT THE SHREVEPORT DOWNTOWN AIRPORT IN
2-3 HOURS TIME DURING THE MID/LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON THE 13TH. THUS, THE
LONG TERM DROUGHT THAT HAD PLAGUED THE LOCAL AREA SINCE MID-NOVEMBER 2025
HAD ENDED, ALTHOUGH THE PROLONGED DRYNESS OBSERVED DURING THE LATTER HALF
OF THE MONTH INTO AUGUST WILL PROMOTE THE REDEVELOPMENT OF DROUGHT
CONDITIONS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE REGION.
