Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwest Arkansas...
Northwest Louisiana...East Texas...and Extreme Southeast Oklahoma
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
118 AM CDT Mon Aug 18 2025

.DISCUSSION...
Upper ridging over the Ozarks and Mid Mississippi Valley this morning will
begin to expand farther southwest into the region today, with 20ft winds
becoming more east northeast especially by afternoon. These northeast winds
should allow in slightly drier air beginning to backdoor southwest into the
area this afternoon and Tuesday, although oppressive hot afternoon temperatures
will still climb into the upper 90s to in excess of 100 degrees both today and
Tuesday. Min RH`s the next couple of afternoons will generally range from 40-45%,
although slightly lower RH`s will be possible Tuesday afternoon especially over
Northeast Texas, Southwest Arkansas, and Southeast Oklahoma. However, some relief
to the heat will be possible for some especially across portions of Northeast and
Central Louisiana and Lower Toledo Bend Country, as scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected to develop in response to a weakness aloft interacting
with the extreme heat/instability and ample moisture still in place. Locally
gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall will be possible in the stronger storms, but
should diminish during the evening. Convection coverage Tuesday afternoon should be
more isolated, with the extreme heat persisting into Wednesday before the weather
pattern begins to take shape as the upper ridge center begins to shift back to the
west into the Rockies and Four Corners Region. A more pronounced upper level weakness
will drift south into the region Wednesday afternoon and persist through at least
late week, resulting in increased cloud cover, slightly cooler temperatures, and
an increase in scattered showers and thunderstorms areawide.
