.DISCUSSION...
Upper ridging will linger over the region through Thursday, resulting in
oppressive heat persisting with afternoon temperatures climbing into the
mid and upper 90s, and resultant heat indices ranging from 105-108 degrees,
mainly over North Louisiana, Southwest Arkansas, and extreme Eastern Texas.
Dry conditions with light 20ft winds will continue as well through at least
midday Thursday, before isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms increase
over Central and Northeast Louisiana in advance of a tropical wave that will shift
west into South Louisiana. These showers and thunderstorms will increase over much
of North Louisiana, extreme Southern Arkansas, and Lower East Texas along/south of
I-20, and redevelop over much of these areas during the day Saturday, resulting
in cooler conditions over much of the region. However, this should be short-lived
as upper ridging begins to expand back west of the area for the latter half of
the weekend and into much of next week, resulting in the return to very hot and
dry conditions.
