Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 45.3 miles Path Width /maximum/: 8000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/08/2025 Start Time: 5:20 PM CDT Start Location: 4 NNE Timpson / Shelby County / TX Start Lat/Lon: 31.9661 / -94.3775 End Date: 06/08/2025 End Time: 6:55 PM CDT End Location: 6 W Bronson / San Augustine / TX End Lat/Lon: 31.3542 / -94.1118 Survey Summary: During the late afternoon of June 8, 2025, a powerful high precipitation supercell thunderstorm developed over East Texas south of Interstate Twenty and advanced south-southeast through Deep East Texas in a highly unstable environment through early evening. Straight line wind damage associated with this storm was most pronounced from northwestern Shelby County through central San Augustine counties, but mostly west of the larger towns of Center, Texas and San Augustine, Texas. Most of the produced damage was trees uprooted in a general southward direction, although there were also some noted trunk snaps - which generally takes more wind than tree uproots require. There was some structural damage noted due to wind along and not just trees falling upon structures (although there were instances of that, too). The most notable and impressive instance of structural straight-line wind damage was in the community of Jericho where a clustering of chicken houses was mostly to completely destroyed by northerly wind gusts estimated to be up to 100 mph. Even in this area, there was a lack of damage patterns typically associated with tornadic circulations. Also notable was damage to a church in the town of Timpson in northwestern Shelby County. Severe wind gusts here knocked the brick veneer off of the front of the church with that veneer falling onto the church awning and destroying that as well. This supercell thunderstorm was producing severe hail for much of its life through this portion of Deep East Texas and this probably helped strengthen the negative buoyancy of the downdrafts - and thus helped boost wind gusts produced in the rear-flank downdraft portion of the storm. Fortunately, the survey team had heard of no injuries or fatalities associated with this storm - at least at the time of this writing. Many thanks to TDEM and Emergency Management Officials in Shelby and San Augustine counties for their assistance locating and getting access to damage. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ 50/10
