...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- A Heat Advisory is in effect through 7 PM this evening for
  counties north of I-20.

- Hot and dry weather will persist through the weekend and into at
  least the middle of next week.

- Gusty south winds will lead to Elevated Fire Weather conditions
  this afternoon for areas along and north of a San Angelo to
  Brownwood line.

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Friday)

Our dominant weather feature is a large upper level high, which is
centered over the Gulf Coast. We have issued a Heat Advisory in
through 7 PM this evening for the Big Country counties to the north
of I-20. Afternoon temperatures and heat indices will reach 103-105
in that area. The surface pressure gradient across our area is
supporting breezy conditions again today with south winds. With this
combination of hot, dry and breezy conditions, we have a Rangeland
Fire Danger Statement to address the elevated fire weather
conditions for this afternoon across the area mainly along and north
of a San Angelo to Brownwood line. Another warm night is in store
with south winds and generally clear skies. Expect overnight lows to
be mostly in the mid to upper 70s. For Friday, the 850mb
temperatures will be slightly lower, and this should result in highs
a degree or two lower than today. We will monitor subsequent model
data for the possible need of a Heat Advisory in some of our
northern counties Saturday. South winds will be breezy from mid-
morning through the afternoon hours.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through next Thursday)

Our area will have a continuation of hot and dry conditions with
mostly clear skies, with the prevailing influence from a large and
expansive upper level ridge. This ridge will be centered over the
lower Mississippi Valley on Saturday, then shift west over North
Texas Sunday night into Monday, and then over New Mexico Tuesday
through midweek. While little change is expected with daily low
temperatures, there are some indications that the 850mb thermal
ridge may strengthen over our area in the early to middle parts of
next week. This suggests an uptick in the daily highs, with most of
our area at or above 100 degrees, and a larger part of the Big
Country and some of the Concho Valley pushing Heat Advisory
criteria. South winds will continue each day, but wind speeds should
be a little lower Sunday through Tuesday as the surface pressure
gradient weakens to some extent.

VFR through tomorrow morning. South winds with a few gusts over 20
knots will affect the area this afternoon through early evening.
Gusts will continue through the overnight hours at KABI, but
likely diminish at the other sites around the area. Expect gusty
southerly winds to redevelop by late morning Friday.
