176 FXUS64 KSJT 271820 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 120 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025 ...New SHORT TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Scattered showers and storms may produce locally heavy rainfall across the Concho Valley, Heartland, and Northwest Hill Country through early evening. - Rain chances will increase across the area Friday into the weekend, along with cooler temperatures. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 120 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025 Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms have developed from the Concho Valley east into Heartland and Northwest Hill Country areas. High resolution models are in good agreement that this activity will end around or shortly after 7 PM this evening, so will keep the dry forecast going for tonight into Thursday morning. Lows tonight will be similar to the last few days in the upper 60s to mid 70s. On Thursday, a drier and hotter forecast is expected, with a slight strengthening in the upper level ridge. At the surface, southeasterly winds tonight will shift to the south/southwest tomorrow morning, and increase to 10 to 20 mph. The southwesterly component to the winds will aid in heating, resulting in warmer temperatures tomorrow in the mid 90s to near 100 degrees. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 1253 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025 On Friday, an upper level ridge will be centered across West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Meanwhile a cold front will move south into the Big Country Friday morning, then stall somewhere across the area (most likely across central portions of the area). Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible along the front. Highs on Friday will be in the low to mid 90s across the Big Country to the mid to upper 90s elsewhere. Saturday into Sunday, the aforementioned upper level ridge will shift slightly west, placing West Central Texas in northwest flow aloft, with intermittent disturbances tracking across the region. In addition, the remnant front should serve as a focus for shower and thunderstorm development. This is one of those situation where rain chances will continue through most of the weekend, but don`t expect rain all weekend. There will likely be a couple or more rounds of showers and thunderstorms, as shortwave energy rotates south and east across the region. At this point, the highest rain chances will most likely be Saturday night into Sunday morning. The main threat with this activity will be locally heavy rainfall, which may result in flooding. Highs on Saturday will be in the mid 80s to mid 90s. with highs on Sunday in the low to mid 80s, well below seasonal normals. Early next week, the better rain chances are forecast to shift south of the area, although isolated to scattered showers are possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will continue to be below seasonal normals, with highs generally in the 80s. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1215 PM CDT Wed Aug 27 2025 Mainly VFR conditions expected across all sites through Thursday morning, except for brief potentially MVFR conditions during some isolated SHRA and TSRA that will affect our southern sites of KSJT, KBBD, KSOA, and KJCT this afternoon.
