208 FXUS64 KSJT 031051 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 551 AM CDT Wed Sep 3 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry and warmer weather is expected through this week. - Rain chances return by the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 153 AM CDT Wed Sep 3 2025 Higher pressure starts to develop across the region today, which will leave mostly quiet weather in place. Highs will indeed warm up higher than previous days. Expect temperatures in the lower to middle 90s for this afternoon, which is pretty close to normal (96 degrees) for this time of year. Lows for tonight will be in the middle 60s to lower 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through Tuesday) Issued at 153 AM CDT Wed Sep 3 2025 Upper level ridging will result in hot conditions across West Central Texas on Thursday. The GFS and ECMWF show 850mb temperatures approaching 25 to 28 Celsius, with forecast afternoon highs in the upper 90s to near 103. The upper level ridge will slowly shift east on Friday, but still expect highs well above seasonal normals. Highs on Friday will be in the mid 90s to near 100. A pattern change is anticipated as we head into the weekend. Tropical Storm Lorena is forecast to track north Thursday into Friday, along the western coast of Baja California. Then both the GFS and ECMWF indicate this system tracking northeast across the Baja Peninsula and eventually into the Desert Southwest. Meanwhile, a cold front is forecast to drop south into the region this weekend. The combination of tropical moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lorena and the aforementioned cold front will bring increasing rain chances to the forecast area this weekend. Exactly how much rain we see will depend on the eventual track of the tropical system and exactly how far south the cold front makes it. Temperatures this weekend into the first part of next week will be below seasonal normals, with highs in the 80s to near 90 and overnight lows in the mid 60s to lower 70s. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 550 AM CDT Wed Sep 3 2025 VFR conditions will remain in place for the remainder of the TAF period. Expect light winds and mostly sunny skies. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
