.KEY MESSAGES...

- A Heat Advisory is in effect this afternoon and early evening
  across the Big Country, Heartland and Mason county.

- A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Big Country, portions of
  the Concho Valley, the Heartland and northwest Hill Country
  counties Thursday afternoon and early evening.

- Forecast afternoon highs and heat indices will likely reach heat
  advisory criteria across portions of the forecast area Friday
  into early next week.

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Thursday)

Hot and mainly dry conditions will persist across the area
into Thursday. A heat Advisory remains in effect for the Big
Country, the Heartland and Mason county through early this
evening. A weak cold front will be draped across the Texas
Panhandle, southeast through north central Texas this afternoon.
Could see some isolated showers ands thunderstorms develop along
this feature during peak heating this afternoon, with some storms
possibly propagating westward into the far eastern counties
through early evening. Will maintain 10 percent POPs to account
for this potential. If any storms manage to develop, gusty winds
will be possible due to the hot surface temperatures and very dry
air in the lower levels.

For Thursday, another hot day is in store as the upper level
ridge remains intact across West Texas. A Heat advisory has been
issued for the Big Country, Concho Valley, Heartland and the
Northwest hill Country counties. Heat indices across this area
will range between 105 and 107. Temperatures will be very warm
tonight, with overnight lows in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through next Wednesday)

Hot and dry conditions will continue across West Central Texas
through the upcoming weekend into early next week, as the upper
ridge remains the dominant feature. For Friday and Saturday,
slightly cooler temperatures are expected across the southern and
southeastern counties, as low level moisture increases some due to
the remnants of Tropical Storm Bertha tracking westward across
south Texas as it dissipates. The upper ridge will also shift a
bit westward into New Mexico and far West Texas during this time
frame, with the hottest temperatures expected across the Concho
Valley and Big Country. Heat Advisories will be possible from the
Concho Valley into the Big Country both days.

Temperatures will increase again areawide Sunday into early next
week, as the upper ridge expands eastward across Texas.
Temperatures are expected to climb back into the upper 90s across
southern portions of the forecast area and between 100 and 105
degrees from the Concho Valley into the Big Country. Thus, Heat
Advisories will likely be needed across portions of the area once
again.
