072 FXUS64 KSJT 051830 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX Issued by National Weather Service Lubbock TX 1230 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Cold front bringing breezy northwesterly winds this afternoon. - Upper pattern change brings cooler temperatures and shower chances over the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Friday) Issued at 1222 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 Currently on cold front watch. Based on surface observations from the West Texas Mesonet, the front is currently about half easy through the forecast area. The front will continue to gradually push southeastward through the rest of the region. Preceding the front, breezy northwesterly winds will fill in across the area. Currently, areas behind the front are seeing gusts up to 35-40 mph. However, winds behind the front are expected to weaken as it pushes through the forecast area. We can still expect wind gusts up to 25-30 mph this afternoon. Despite the frontal passage through the afternoon, the colder air will be delayed until this evening. Therefore, we will still see warm temperatures in the 70s with some areas across the southeastern portions seeing highs in the lower 80s. The overnight period will be quiet. Northerly winds are expected to continue to weaken overnight and lows will reach the mid-40s to lower 50s by early morning. A low cloud deck is also expected to fill in overnight through early Friday with the influx of moisture following the cold front. Mostly cloudy skies and light northeasterly winds will cool off temperatures Friday with highs in the mid-60s to lower 70s. A shower or two may be possible across the Big Country region early Friday, however confidence on that is low. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Thursday) Issued at 1222 PM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 The long term forecast will start off with a cooler and cloudy weekend. The cloud deck that is expected to fill in across the forecast area Friday is expected to prevail Saturday and Sunday keeping high temperatures in the 60s. Precipitation chances also return this weekend with an upper pattern change. An upper low will develop across the Desert Southwest before swinging across northern Mexico. This upper pattern change will shift the flow aloft to the southwest, ushering in subtropical moisture to the mid-to-upper levels. The influx of subtropical moisture in combination with the moisture behind the front will bring chances for rain showers over the weekend. Showers are expected to begin overnight Friday into early Saturday across western portions of the forecast area before expanding east. Showers will then clear out to the south and east through late Sunday and early Monday. Not much is expected from these showers besides light to moderate rain with storm total QPF around 0.5 inches or less across the region with higher amounts across the Northern Edwards Plateau and Northwest Hill Country regions. As the upper low swings across Texas and continues to push east next week, upper ridging will begin to amplify up the Rockies. As the ridging amplifies and pushes east, temperatures will warm back up to the 70s and conditions will dry out. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1126 AM CST Thu Nov 5 2026 VFR conditions will prevail. A cold front will push through the region this afternoon bringing breezy northwesterly winds to all terminals. However, as it continues to track southeast, winds behind the front gradually weaken. Therefore, some terminals will experience stronger winds such as KSJT and KBBD compared to others. A low cloud deck is expected to fill in early Friday morning and prevail through the rest of the day. At the moment, this cloud deck is expected to remain VFR, however it is possible these clouds could bring MVFR conditions. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
