485 FXUS64 KSJT 281920 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 120 PM CST Fri Nov 28 2025 ...New SHORT TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Low chances of showers by this afternoon, and low to medium chances for showers and a few thunderstorms this evening and overnight. - Gusty north-northeast winds are expected Saturday evening and Saturday night following a cold frontal passage. - Colder temperatures on Sunday, with temperatures remaining below normal through the early part of next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Saturday) Issued at 120 PM CST Fri Nov 28 2025 Expect low to medium chance of showers and a few thunderstorms across much of the area tonight and early Saturday morning due to increasing mid level ascent and increasing moisture. Rainfall amounts look light and also some weak elevated instability for possible thunder. The rain will be over Saturday morning. Also, low level southerly flow will continue with gusts to 30 mph at times. A strong cold front will move south into the area Saturday and will be along a San Angelo to Brownwood line by 00Z Sunday. Another warm day before strong cold air advection/much colder weather arrives for Sunday. Highs will be mainly in the 70s. However, temperatures may be slowly falling across the Big Country during the afternoon. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through next Thursday) Issued at 1245 PM CST Fri Nov 28 2025 Saturday evening, the cold front should be down around the I-10 corridor and should exit our forecast area by mid evening. High pressure building in behind the front with northeasterly surface winds will result in continued cold air advection Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon. Expect lows early Sunday morning in the low 30s. Post-frontal winds will be gusty, with winds of around 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. As the pressure gradient weakens, winds will lessen after sunrise. Highs Sunday afternoon look to be in the mid 40s with partly to mostly cloudy skies as southeasterly low level flow returns to bring an increase in low level moisture and clouds. Sunday night, enhanced southerly flow will result in overcast stratus skies, which will help dampen radiational cooling. As a result, now the NBM is showing lows early Monday morning in the low to mid 30s, which is a change from the previous forecast which had lows in the upper 20s. A strong upper level short-wave trough moving across the Central Plains during the day Monday will push another cold front across the region during the afternoon through the early evening hours. With the front arriving earlier to the Big Country, highs look to reach only the low to mid 50s, while highs reach the upper 50s to low 60s south of the Big Country (except the Heartland and Northwest Hill Country where low clouds may linger and keep highs in the 50s). Monday night will be a good radiational cooling night as surface high pressure moves in behind the front, with winds weakening and skies mostly clear to partly cloudy. Thus, it`s looking likely that Tuesday morning will be the coldest morning of the week with lows in the mid to upper 20s. Southerly low level flow will return once again during the day Tuesday, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. More upper level energy will push across the Central Plains Wednesday pushing another cold front through the region Wednesday night, while pre-frontal warming results in highs Wednesday in the mid to upper 60s. Lows Thursday night look to be in the mid 30s to low 40s. Post-frontal cold air advection continuing Thursday will result in cooler highs in the 50s. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1139 AM CST Fri Nov 28 2025 Expect widespread MVFR ceilings to fall to IFR ceilings late this afternoon and lasting through Saturday morning as low level moisture continue to increase. The south winds will be gusting to 25 knots at times. Also, expect isolated to scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across much of the area. Will watch radar trends for possible amendments at the terminals. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
