351 FXUS64 KSJT 040316 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 916 PM CST Wed Dec 3 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - A cold front will move through the area this afternoon and evening. This will bring breezy and colder conditions for Thursday, along with a low chance (20 to 30 percent) for scattered light rain showers during the day. - Dry and warmer weather will prevail Friday through the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 106 PM CST Wed Dec 3 2025 Surface cold front has crossed the Red River and is heading towards the Big country early this afternoon. The front will move south across the area this afternoon and evening, with the front clearing the I-10 corridor by late evening. Gusty north winds will develop behind the front overnight into Thursday morning, with winds beginning to subside by tomorrow afternoon. A short wave will move across the region Thursday. Ahead of this feature, cloud cover will increase tonight into Thursday morning, with cloudy and cold conditions expected during the day. Low level cold air advection, coupled with abundant cloud cover will result in highs tomorrow mainly in the low to mid 40s. Breezy north winds will make it feel even colder, with wind chill values in the 30s for much of the day. Lastly, weak lift up and over the frontal boundary may result in some very light showers or drizzle primarily across eastern and southeast portions of the forecast area tomorrow. However, any precipitation is expected to be very light. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 1231 PM CST Wed Dec 3 2025 Mostly benign weather in the longer term portion of the forecast. In general, upper level trough over the eastern US and upper ridge over the west will allow for a dry northwest flow across the Southern Plains. Several weak shortwaves will move across the area, but limited moisture with them so precipitation chances will remain very limited. Same basic pattern with these waves, with warmer southwest/west surface winds ahead of the system (this coming Saturday and next Wednesday), followed by a cold front dragging a colder air mass into the area (this Sunday and next Thursday). Coldest night over the next week will be Monday morning when radiational cooling allows temperatures to drop to near or below freezing across the area. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 830 PM CST Wed Dec 3 2025 A cold front is moving through the area late this evening. Expect gusty north winds behind the front, with these winds continuing into the early to mid afternoon hours Thursday. Stratus will approach the southern 3 sites during the early morning hours Thursday, ahead of the front, resulting in MVFR ceilings. Behind the front, stratus will filter into the KABI and KSJT, resulting in MVFR ceilings. Expect gradual improvements in ceilings by mid to late afternoon Thursday. Isolated light showers are possible on Thursday, but coverage should remain isolated, so no mention was included in the current TAFs. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
