Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
217 AM AST Sat Aug 8 2026

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR THE SOUTHERN AND
SOUTHWESTERN COASTAL PLAINS AND HILLS TODAY...

Critical fuel conditions persist across the islands, with extreme
drought conditions across portions of the southern coastal plains of
Puerto Rico. As a drier air mass continues to filter into the
region, moisture content will drop significantly, with RH values
between 47 and 50 percent, well below thresholds. Due to critical
fuel conditions across the southern area of the island and KDBI
values well above thresholds, the fire danger threat remains
ELEVATED. Therefore, a Fire Danger Statement is in effect from 10
AM through 5 PM AST. Residents and visitors are encouraged to
avoid outdoor burning, as conditions will likely be favorable for
wildfire ignition and rapid spread.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and
spread of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
