.KEY MESSAGES...

- A marginal risk of excessive rainfall will continue across much
  of Utah through the next five days. Expect an increased threat
  of flash flooding, primarily across slot canyons, normally dry
  washes, slick rock areas, and recent burn scars.

.DISCUSSION...High pressure will remain in a favorable location to
continue the ongoing monsoon surge through at least the next seven
days across the Beehive State. First though, all remaining heat
headlines were allowed to expire earlier this evening.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms with the threat of
heavy rainfall will develop Monday afternoon across much of the
region. Again, like previous days, the most flood prone locations
will continue to be slot canyons, normally dry washes, slick rock
areas as well as recent burn scars.

Looking ahead, the Weather Prediction Center has Utah outlooked in
a marginal risk for flash flooding through the next 5 days...and
guidance suggests this monsoon surge should continue into at
least next weekend if not early next week.

.AVIATION...KSLC...The SLC terminal will see primarily VFR
conditions through Monday. Southerly winds are likely to persist
through the night and into Monday morning, with northwesterly
winds expected to develop around 19-20z. However, there is a 40%
chance of thunderstorms over/near the terminal between 19-23z
which could result in gusty and erratic winds. Southerly drainage
winds may develop earlier than normal on Monday evening ahead
another potential round of showers and thunderstorms developing
between 01- 04z.

REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Generally VFR conditions
will prevail across the airspace tonight through Monday. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms will redevelop Monday afternoon.
Pockets of heavy rain and gusty winds may bring brief MVFR
conditions and ceilings that could result in temporary mountain
obscurations. Gusty and erratic outflow winds can be expected near
showers and thunderstorms. Outside of showers and thunderstorms,
generally light diurnal winds can be expected. Locally reduced
visibility in smoke will occur near several large wildfires
including near Richfield, near Cedar City, near Morgan, and
between Ephraim and Huntington.

.FIRE WEATHER, Issued 1256 PM MDT Sun Aug 9 2026...
Monsoonal moisture will continue to gradually increase statewide
through at least Wednesday, resulting in increasing coverage of
showers and thunderstorms, particularly across higher terrain.
Today, storms will feature a mix of strong outflow winds statewide
and some wetting rains primarily across southern Utah. Wind gusts
could reach 50-60 mph with collapsing storms. As moisture
continues to increase this week, relative humidities and wetting
rain chances will increase alongside decreasing temperatures.
Daily afternoon showers and thunderstorms will persist likely
through the week, with fairly light winds expected outside of any
outflow.
