Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Utah
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
207 AM MDT Thu Jun 19 2025

...RED FLAG WARNINGS START THURSDAY AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Dry, windy conditions will make for
several days in a row of high fire danger. These conditions will
start Thursday afternoon and continue through much of Saturday. A
cold front will track from north to south Saturday. Behind the
cold front, winds will be much lighter from the northwest. The
cold front will be dry with continued low relative humidity.

.DISCUSSION...A ridge of high pressure will be near the Arizona
and New Mexico border Thursday. A longwave trough off the British
Columbia coast will dig southward. As the trough continues to
approach and the ridge stays in a similar position, southwest
winds will enhance for much of the western U.S.

Temperatures will be in record territory Thursday for much of
Utah, with southwest winds picking up into the afternoon.
Sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts around 35 mph will combine
with minimum relative humidity values in the single digits to
teens to increase fire danger. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for
most of Utah, with places that are not included mountainous areas
where fuels have been deemed to not be as dry.

Minimal change is forecast Friday, as the trough will dig into
the Pacific Northwest. This will push the ridge further east,
which will come with slightly cooler conditions. That will enhance
southwest winds. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts around
40 mph are likely with similar minimum relative humidity values.

As the trough approaches Utah Saturday, temperatures will cool
more, but winds will increase while relative humidity stays
similar. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph with gusts around 50 mph are
likely south of the cold front that will track from north to
south. Red Flag Warnings continue through much of Saturday.

The front will be dry, but it will come with much lighter winds
from the northwest. Depending on how fast the front tracks from
north to south, high fire danger may continue for southern and
eastern portions of Utah Sunday.

***Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds***
***All winds are 20 foot, 10-minute averages***
