.DISCUSSION...An approaching low pressure system is currently
producing widespread showers across southern Utah, with current
snow levels likely just below the spot location. Precipitation
type is the greatest forecast challenge today, as an increase of a
few more degrees will likely transition snow over to a mix of
rain and snow this afternoon. However, there is still a 40%
chance that only snow falls through the afternoon. In this case,
snow totals would be a bit higher, around 6-10" through Wednesday
afternoon (1-2" through this evening, 2-4" overnight, then another
2-4" on Wednesday). Chances are lower for any rain mixing in on
Wednesday afternoon. As far as timing, the heaviest precipitation
will likely fall this afternoon before a break in the action
around 1900-2400 this evening. Heavier precipitation will return
overnight before becoming more showery in nature after noon
Wednesday. Clearing indices will remain above 500 each afternoon
despite lower mixing heights.
