...Heavy rainfall threat continues along the east coast of Florida
today...

The latest surface analysis this morning shows a lee-side cyclone
winding up in the Central High Plains ahead of a deep Western U.S.
upper-trough. Over the next 6-12 hours, this system is forecast to
quickly deepen while moving across the Northern Plains, leading to
increasing winds, showers, and thunderstorms to kick off the work
week. As a cold front emerges later this afternoon, the Central
and Southern Plains can expect a round of severe thunderstorms and
isolated to scattered flash flooding. The focus for heavy rainfall
will then march eastward toward the Mississippi Valley and Upper-
Midwest ahead of the front, with some severe weather also possible
across the Lower/Mid-Mississippi Valley.

Meanwhile, persistent onshore flow from a large high pressure
system sliding off the East Coast will bring additional heavy
rainfall for portions of southern Florida Peninsula today. In
contrast, the same high pressure system will maintain dry and mild
weather for much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
