Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop this evening into the overnight hours along and north of a slow-moving frontal boundary stretching from the Gulf Coast back through southern Texas. With abundant moisture in place, storms may produce heavy rainfall rates leading to localized flooding, with isolated to scattered flash flooding possible. Although unsettled conditions are expected to persist across Texas and the Gulf Coast through tomorrow, the threat for heavy rainfall and flooding should gradually diminish as the front shifts farther south and drier air presses into the region. Farther north, a slow-moving disturbance will trigger showers and storms across portions of the central Plains, eastern Oklahoma, and the lower Missouri Valley late today into tomorrow. Unsettled weather will linger into early Tuesday before the system accelerates eastward, spreading showers and thunderstorms across the lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys by late in the day. In addition to the clouds and rain, daytime temperatures will remain 1015 degrees below normal across parts of the central Plains and lower Missouri Valley. Across the eastern U.S., temperatures are forecast to remain seasonal to below average into midweek. In contrast, above-normal warmth will persist along the California coast and across the Northwest. Well-above-normal temperatures will expand across the Northwest into midweek, with record-breaking highs expected across parts of eastern Washington and northern Idaho beginning Tuesday. While the Northwest remains hot and dry, monsoon moisture will push northward from the Southwest on Tuesday, bringing an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms across Nevada and interior California. Finally, a strong cold front dropping south out of Canada will sweep into the northern Plains and upper Midwest on Tuesday. This system will bring a chance for showers and storms, followed by a notably colder airmass spreading across the region.
