.DISCUSSION...

...Through Tonight...
Current GOES-West visible satellite imagery shows some mid to
high level clouds spreading inland across interior northern
California on this Veteran`s Day afternoon. Mild and dry
conditions will prevail across the region today as upper level
ridging continues across much of the Western US. Light and
variable winds are forecast across much of the area as well. High
temperatures will range from the 60s to lower 70s in the mountains
and low to mid 70s in the Valley, which is trending above normal
for this time of year. Some patchy mist/fog may develop late
tonight/early Wednesday morning as well before southerly winds
increase ahead of an approaching storm system.

...Wednesday through Friday...
Confidence is increasing on the atmospheric river storm system to
bring widespread precipitation, isolated to scattered
thunderstorms, gusty southerly winds, moderate mountain snow and
cooler temperatures to the forecast area late Wednesday through
Friday. The latest guidance shows some scattered showers ahead of
the main band on Wednesday afternoon with the front moving through
Wednesday night into Thursday. WPC Guidance shows the latest
precipitation totals to be around 1-2 inches in the Valley and
1.5-3 inches in the foothills and mountains. Snow levels have
trended higher with the most recent forecast, and the Winter Storm
Watch has been upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory above 6500
feet from 1 AM Thursday to 4 AM Friday. Gusty southerly winds will
also develop with this storm system, and a Wind Advisory has been
issued for the Valley, Delta and Northeast Foothills from 10 PM
Wednesday through 1 PM Thursday. Isolated to scattered
thunderstorms may also develop Wednesday night through Thursday
evening, with generally a 10-20 percent chance being advertised by
the NBM. Be sure to plan ahead for the pattern change and check
back frequently for updates on the latest forecast!

...Weekend through Early Next Week...
There is potential for another round of showers in the forecast
for late this weekend into early next week from a secondary system
moving across the Pacific Northwest. Minimal impacts are expected
from this at this time as precipitation amounts appear to be
relatively light, however there could be some minor snow
accumulations in the mountains of 1-2 inches and then slick roads
elsewhere from rain.

.AVIATION...
General VFR conditions prevail across interior northern
California over the next 24 hours, with the exception of patchy
MVFR/IFR/LIFR conditions in the Valley and Delta from 11Z to 17Z
Wednesday in BF/FG. Light and variable winds are forecast at TAF
sites through 12Z-15Z Wednesday before southerly winds begin to
increase ahead of an approaching storm system.
