.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns are moderate this afternoon due to
low RH values.
High pressure building into the area today is expected to
advect dry air in from the northwest. This should cause RH
values to fall to around 25 percent this afternoon.
Fortunately wind speeds are forecast to be 10 to 15 mph
with some gusts around 20 mph. So red flag conditions are
not anticipated, but range land fire danger is forecast to
be high where RH values are lowest. The northwest winds and
mixing heights around 5KFT should provide excellent smoke
dispersal conditions.
Another cold front is expected to move through Saturday
morning with stronger northwest winds developing. Temps
should also be cooler Saturday so while NW winds could
gust to around 35 mph, RH values generally stay above 30
percent. Nevertheless the gusty northwest winds Saturday may
create elevated fire danger.
Precip chances are low through Saturday night and mainly
confined to northeast KS. Dry weather is forecast next week.
A hard freeze Monday morning will probably accelerate curing
of fuels. So fire weather may become more of a concern
as temps rebound into the 60s next week.
