...NWS Topeka Planned AWIPS System Upgrade June 16-18th...

The National Weather Service in Topeka, Kansas will be conducting
a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive
Processing System (AWIPS) from 6am June 16th through
approximately 5pm June 18th. The NWS uses the AWIPS computer
system to display and integrate weather and water information, and
to send life saving information such as weather and water
warnings to the public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be
conducted by our service back up office at NWS Wichita to minimize
any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our core
services of forecasts and weather watches, warnings and advisories
are expected during this period.

However, impacts will occur to the following services:

NWS Topeka NOAA Weather Radios will be off air for the duration
of this upgrade. A listing of the NOAA Weather Radio transmitters
that will be impacted can be found at
weather.gov/nwr/wfo_list?WFO=top

During periods of planned or unplanned outages it is important to
have multiple ways to receive warning information. These
alternative sources can include local TV and radio, weather apps
on your mobile device and the NWS website at weather.gov/top

The KTWX radar will remain operational during this time and its
products will continue to be distributed as normal. The NWS Topeka
office will also remain staffed at all hours throughout this
update period to answer partner and public calls and additional
functions that can be completed while our AWIPS is upgraded.
